The purpose of the system is to create and maintain a seamless digital 1:500 000 scale geological map of Greenland. The data is among other things, used to produce printed maps, digital maps, and web maps.

The central elements of the data set are mapped geological units; main key is called GM_LABEL. Other geological and topographical elements are also included.
