Datasættet består af 314 observationer / cases (n=314). Hver observation er et undervisningssegment à 15 minutters varighed, hvor der er foregået undervisning i en lektion. Hver række i datasættet repræsenterer én observation (et undervisningssegment). Der er 104 undervisningssegmenter i Samfundsfag, 96 undervisningssegmenter i Dansk og 114 undervisningssegmenter i Matematik. Datasættet består desuden af 165 variable. Hver variabel indeholder information om en bestemt egenskab ved observationerne (undervisningssegmenterne). Hver kolonne i datasættet repræsenterer én variabel. Nogle variable indeholder information om alle undervisningssegmenter, mens andre variable indeholder fagspecifik information om undervisningssegmenter fra ét af de tre fag: Samfundsfag, Language Arts L1 eller Matematik. Såfremt variablen indeholder fagspecifik information, er faget markeret i variablens navn med bogstaverne SO for Samfundsfag, LA for Language Arts L1 eller MA for Matematik. De 165 variable er enten information, der er blevet indsamlet ved observation eller surveys, indhentet ved desk research eller beregnet ud fra allerede tilvejebragt information. Datasættets sammensætning er kompleks, fordi det både indeholder forskellige analyseniveauer, forskellige grupperinger samt variation over både tid og enheder. Sidstnævnte betyder, at datasættet er et længdesnitsdatasæt (longitudinal dataset), hvor information om forskellige deltagere (lærer-klasse konstellationer) er indsamlet på forskellige tidspunkter i løbet af en kort periode (en eller flere lektioner). Denne omstændighed åbner for nogle analytiske muligheder, som ikke er tilgængelige med et tværsnitsdatasæt (cross sectional dataset), hvor deltagerne kun er blevet observeret på ét tidspunkt. Det gør imidlertid også analyserne mere komplekse og indebærer nogle udfordringer, som der må tages højde for, da observationer af de samme deltagere over tid (de samme lærer-klasse-konstellationer over flere segmenter og lektioner) ikke kan antages at være uafhængige af hinanden.
